I’ve decided to stop fiddling with this one for now and come back to it later. At the moment I want to mute the background a little more.  I haven’t tried portrait painting before .. I didn’t think I could do it. As the face started to appear on the paper I felt more and more pleased with it .. I don’t usually get that. He does look a little sad though …

At the moment this painting has no name. Any (sensible) suggestions?

Today’s painting is Audrey Hepburn. I thought I’d better mention it, just in case no-one can recognise her! I’m not a fan of the pop art style paintings, but I do think Audrey Hepburn was beautiful. I tried really hard to not make the painting look like a paint-by-number pop art thing … I hope I’ve succeeded!

Not a promising start to February on the ‘Five Days A Week’ front! No painting for yesterday … how can it be February already?!

A silly painting today. I used to like Lovehearts when I was a kid. Not sure why .. they were like eating chalk. But I think this makes a cute little valentine-themed painting.

I’ve neglected Five Days A Week haven’t I? I must try harder.

Today’s painting is bigger than the usual 5×5 inch – it’s about 15×12 inches I think. I painted most of this one without the use of a brush. I used knife and a rubber-gloved hand.

This has a long way to go, and may end up on the rubbish heap … I’m not sure I have the patience for charcoal!! Pencil with a little charcoal I seem to cope with, but all charcoal … well, I manage to spread it all over the place.

Can you tell what it is yet? (In my best Rolf Harris voice)

Actually, I should have posted the photo upside down, because that’s how I’m working on it. It helps me to draw what I see rather than what I think I see.

I can’t believe it’s snowing again. I might like monkeys, and monkeys do like bananas, but I don’t like snow.

I’ve always wanted a monkey, ever since I was a kid. I had one of those big toy chimps, the ones with plastic hands, feet and face. I loved that chimp, but really wanted a real one. Not sure why! After hearing about the woman who had her face torn off by a pet chimp, I’m not so keen.

You know I said I was going to start the Different Strokes From Different Folks weekly challenge? Well, after however long the artist has been running it .. she decided to finish this week! Pft. I must have jinxed it.

Possible news of a solo exhibition to follow .. woohoo!

I’ve been awake since 3am today .. is it possible the snow woke me up?? I got up at 4.30, which meant I could start painting early. I enjoyed this painting! I do think something strange has happened to my brain though … I keep looking at everything around me as shapes and colours and thinking about how I might paint it. Even in my sleep.

Working like this (from one side to the other, like a scanner) is strange … I can’t really see what’s developing on the page until I step away. For example, I’ve only just noticed the shadow of the taxi driver’s seatbelt!
